October 18, 2020

It might surprise you to hear that most of Richmond Hill is spoken for. Residetial neighbourhoods, green space, protected natural lands, transit and transportation infrastructure and businesses all call Richmond Hill home. So, if the opportunity to own a home in Richmond Hill, or more specifically, in the Oak Ridges area of the city, you don’t want to pass it up!

At close to 210,000 people, Richmond Hill is a vibrant city that has experienced growth and prosperity over the last few decades. Residents and new home buyers will continue to experience the area maturing, the convenience of closeby established amenities like schools, parks, recreation facilities, shopping centres and gourmet restaurants, as the surrounding protected natural lands remain untouched and the investment in a new home appreciates.

What makes Richmond Hill’s Oak Ridges neighbourhood special

Bound by Highway 404 to the east, Bloomington Sideroad to the north, Bathurst Street to the west and Highway 7 to the south, Richmond Hill is centrally located in York Region and you can easily get around the rest of the GTA and downtown Toronto by train, bus, car and even plane.

In the northeast quadrant of Richmond Hill is the Oak Ridges neighbourhood, defined by its proximity to arguably the most significant green space in the city – the Oak Ridges Moraine. The neighbourhood of OakRidge Meadows is enveloped by the Moraine on three sides. Families living here will have incredible access to this ecological treasure. Exploring the 175-plus hectares full of mature forests, meadows, wetlands, river valleys and more is one of the best ways to connect with nature. Living beside the Oak Ridges Moraine means endless trails to scale and enjoying nature in a new way with every visit.

The future is bright

Richmond Hill is home to many top-graded schools, including 20 private and specialty schools. The commute to 10 nearby colleges and universities is multi-modal and easily accessible and there are 4 public library locations in the city, making it a smart investment for residents and businesses.

Known as Canada’s most educated workforce, over 77 per cent of Richmond Hill residents have a post-secondary education. The Conference Board of Canada ranked Richmond Hill as one of the top four cities in Canada – and the only one in the GTA – for attracting and retaining skilled workers. Many of the biggest national and international companies have chosen Richmond Hill as the place to call home, setting up head offices here and employing tens of thousands of professionals who also call Richmond Hill home.

Calling Richmond Hill home

Richmond Hill is one of the most attractive places in Canada to live. On average, 85 per cent of residents own their home here and the most common type is the single detached home, which accounts for close to 60 per cent of all dwellings in the city.

Over time, the number of mid-rise condominiums and townhomes have been increasing, providing more choice to first-time home buyers, downsizers who want to stay in the area and young families moving up the real estate ladder.

In addition to the diversity in housing, Richmond Hill is a city that values cultural diversity. Multiculturalism within a community can offer economic, social and cultural benefits and in 2018, the City of Richmond Hill endorsed an Inclusion Charter which affirms the City’s commitment to foster a community where everyone feels they belong and have access to the same opportunities through its programs and services.

Appreciating arts and culture

A leader in its own right, Richmond Hill created a Cultural Plan back in 2011 to elevate its already vibrant community in which culture is a part of all facets of the city’s planning and decision-making. The community was involved in creating the plan and every year there is a progress report published to measure its success.

For a city so rooted in its history, the value of its mosaic of cultures is important. There is a strong base of cultural facilities and programs, including the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, the Richmond Hill Heritage Centre and the Boynton House, plus there are numerous libraries and recreation centres where a wide range of cultural and artistic programming is available.

What’s also interesting is the 249 identified cultural businesses, including art galleries and dance and photography studios, music school and stores and more, that exist in the city. In addition, 265 creative industries such as film and video operations, graphic designers, advertising and publishing businesses represent almost half of all identified cultural resources here.

Now is the time to invest in Richmond Hill

A well-rounded city, with a strong economic, cultural and housing foundation, Richmond Hill is a good investment and finding your forever home in an established community like Oak Ridges will see it grow in value.
